The mysterious man that Effie is waiting for, sounds like a super-natural being, such as God. It indicates that he only comes on a black cloud, when music is on, and during a thunderstorm. The man will take Effie away and it seems as if Effie wants that to happen. This man could be Jesus, although it unlikely because Effie thought Neil was “the man”. The man could be Effie’s lover; however a very eccentric lover. If the man is not mortal or immortal, then he is probably abstract. When Effie refers to the person she is waiting for, who comes on a cloud with music and a thunderstorm, the man could symbolize friendship, but this speculation is also has some faults. However the most probable guess, to me, is Jesus.
